Kunena 1.5 has quickly become the most popular forum component for Joomla. With over 200,000 installations, many Joomla sites depend on Kunena as an integrated and powerful forum.
Integration is a key aspect of Kunena, so it features embedded module positions and best in class SEO without the need for third-party extensions. You also get close integration with third-party components for profiles and other features of leading social/community components.
Kunena 1.5.9 has just been released. For more information, see the release notes at: http://docs.kunena.com/index.php/Kunena_1.5.9_Read_Me
The Kunena team is also working hard on Kunena 1.6 and 2.0--both are MVC-based native J1.5/1.6 versions. Kunena 1.6 focuses on community-requested features like:
• New profile pages
• New moderation tools
• Mootools-based behaviors (which integrate even better with Joomla and avoid loading extra Javascript libraries)
• A new BBcode editor
• Color-coded categories
• A new default template with a refreshed look
• Customizable profile/avatar positions, category subscriptions
• New Ajax/JSON-based behaviors like auto complete
• A new Joomla menu bar that replaces the proprietary menu tabs of prior versions
• New login module
• Message trash with backend undelete option
• Thread polls on select categories
• Up to 80% reduced SQL queries for pages
These are just a handful of the new features on the way. More details on the progress will be posted soon.
